Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mahbub-ul Alam is a distinguished physician, academician, and public health advocate with more than three decades of service in the Government sector and extensive experience in Transfusion Medicine and Blood Banking. He is currently serving as Professor of Transfusion Medicine at Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College & Hospital, Enayetpur, Sirajganj, and has also held the position of Professor of Transfusion Medicine at Rajshahi Medical College.
Dr. Alam completed his MBBS from Rajshahi Medical College (Rajshahi University) in May 1987 and later achieved his MD in Transfusion Medicine from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka in January 2006. He has received specialized training and certifications in Safe Blood Transfusion (University of Colombo, Sri Lanka), Research Bio-Ethics (BMRC, Dhaka), Peer Review (Netherlands), and Scientific Research, Qualitative Data Analysis, and SPSS-based Data Analysis. He also completed advanced computer and troubleshooting training from the Centre for Medical Education (CME), Dhaka.
With over 22 years of professional experience in Transfusion Medicine, Dr. Alam has played a pivotal role in the development of safe blood transfusion services, voluntary blood donation programs, and public health awareness initiatives in Bangladesh. His contributions extend to government policy-making, particularly in the areas of transfusion medicine and social awareness related to health.
An accomplished researcher and academic author, Dr. Alam has published 13 original research articles as principal author, 2 as co-author, 5 review articles, and 3 case reports. He serves as an editorial board member and peer reviewer for several national and international scientific journals.
Beyond academia, Dr. Alam is actively involved as an Advisor to major voluntary blood donor organizations, including Sondhani, Badhan, and Swajon. He has also contributed to social welfare through NGO services, notably with Assistance for Blind Children & Rehabilitation, Dhaka, and continues his engagement with Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College & Hospital since April 2023.
Dr. Alam has been featured in radio and television programs, contributing to public discussions on health issues, and regularly writes newspaper and journal articles, as well as poems, to promote voluntary blood donation and public health awareness. His cultural engagement includes participation in a film on the Liberation War, featured at the Japan–Bangladesh Art Gallery.
He is a Life Member of several prestigious professional bodies, including Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), Blood Transfusion Society of Bangladesh (BTSB), Asian Association of Transfusion Medicine (AATM), and Rajshahi Medical College Teachers Association (RMCTA), and holds memberships in international organizations such as ISBT (Netherlands) and AABB (USA).
Through his lifelong dedication to medicine, education, research, and social service, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mahbub-ul Alam has made a lasting impact on the advancement of Transfusion Medicine and public health in Bangladesh.
